Type of adoptions:

Open: In an open adoption you and the adoptive parents may meet during the pregnancy, be together for the birth and maintain some degree of contact after the adoption. You and the adoptive family are assisted in developing a plan for contact, in advance, that meets the emotional needs of the child, first, and of all concerned.

Semi-open: You choose the adoptive family, you may have some contact during the pregnancy and you may choose to receive pictures and updates at intervals after the birth and adoption. You have the option of granting permission for the child to seek you out and to know you when he/she reaches legal age to do so.

Closed Adoption: You trust an agency to choose a good family for your child based on certain qualities that are important to you such as race, religion, marital status, part of the country. There is no contact between you and the adoptive family. You still have the option of granting permission for the child to contact you when the child is of age to do so, legally.

In any of these cases the birth mother has full control over the plan for the delivery of the baby, the degree of involvement of the adoptive family in the birth and the amount of contact you have with the baby during the hospital stay.

Children of the World, Inc. is licensed by the State of Alabama and handles all of the adoption-related legal issues without you needing the services of an attorney. Our services are confidential and respectful of your wishes. We are committed to serving the rights of birth families in the adoption process.
